MEET OUR INSTRUCTORS

At The Health and Karate Center, our instructors bring a wealth of experience, passion, and dedication to the art of traditional Okinawan karate. Led by Sensei Rick Bryan, a 6th degree black belt with over two decades of training and extensive experience in Okinawa, our teaching team is committed to preserving the authenticity and spirit of this martial art.

Aya Wooley, a 3rd degree black belt, and James Kerr, a 2nd degree black belt preparing for his 3rd degree, each contribute their own unique strengths and perspectives to the dojo. Together, they offer students of all ages and skill levels an encouraging and challenging environment to grow in strength, discipline, and confidence.

With deep connections to Okinawan culture and a shared mission to inspire others, our instructors are here to guide you on your karate journey—every step of the way.

Sensei Rick Bryan
6th Degree Black Belt, 2nd Degree Black Belt in Kobudo

Sensei Rick Bryan is the chief instructor and heart of our dojo. With over two decades of training, beginning in 1999, he has dedicated himself to mastering traditional Okinawan karate and kobudo. A 6th degree black belt in karate and 2nd degree black belt in kobudo, Sensei Rick has traveled to Okinawa many times to train directly under Hanshi Naonabu Ahagon, ensuring the authenticity of his teachings. His passion for karate and commitment to passing on its traditions inspire students of all ages.

Aya Wooley
3rd Degree Black Belt, 1st Degree Black Belt in Kobudo

Aya Wooley is an integral part of our teaching team. She holds a 3rd degree black belt in karate and a 1st degree black belt in kobudo. Since joining the dojo in 2015, Aya has shown unwavering dedication to both her training and her students. She has traveled to Okinawa multiple times to deepen her knowledge and connection to the roots of karate. Aya’s approachable teaching style and dedication motivate students to achieve their best.

James Kerr
2nd Degree Black Belt, Testing for 3rd Degree and Kobudo Certification

James Kerr brings years of experience and a fresh perspective to our dojo. He began training in 2007 and earned his 2nd degree black belt in 2012. After taking a ten-year break, James returned to the dojo with a renewed passion for karate and is now preparing for his 3rd degree black belt and 1st degree black belt in kobudo. While he has yet to train in Okinawa, plans are underway for him to visit and study the art at its source. His journey highlights the resilience and lifelong connection that karate fosters.
